Kar Yan Tam

Kar Yan Tam is dean of The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), School of Business and Management, and chair professor of information systems, business statistics, and operations management. Prior to being dean of the business school, he was dean of students and associate provost at HKUST.
Tam serves on the boards of AACSB and EFMD. He was the president of the Association of Asia Pacific Business Schools in 2018. He is also active in public service, currently serving as chairman of the Curriculum Development Council of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and a council member of the Hong Kong Productivity Council, the Open University of Hong Kong, and the Technological and Higher Education Institute of Hong Kong. He serves on the Hong Kong Academy of Finance Council of Advisers and the Certified Banker Steering Committee of the Hong Kong Institute of Bankers. He was awarded the Medal of Honour in 2017 and appointed Justice of the Peace in 2021 by HKSAR. In 2022, Tam was appointed chairperson of the Hong Kong Committee for Pacific Economic Cooperation (HKCPEC) and a member of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.
Tam is an information systems scholar specializing in fintech and data analytics. He has an active role in promoting academia-business collaboration.
